Not exactly what you asked, but here is what we have done.....in an area that is mostly tillage.
We went to no-till beans in the early 90s.....many others did too. Did some no-till corn in selected fields over the years .....with some good results, and some where we thought it not quite as good as it could have been. Never did fall corn tillage on what was tilled, but 2 passes in spring with old tools.
Many farmers here are back to doing tillage on beans , but we are happy still with our no-till. Nh3 is put on preplant with a tool bar, then one light pass with a VT tool (Caseih 330) to smooth things out, and plant. Two years and very happy.....just enough tillage to make a forgiving seedbed and level from toolbar. Need to have weeds controlled ahead however, because we can only work shallow because of lack of hp.....but that is what VT is supposed to be . This is on a close to 50/50 rotation. One person to plant beans and 2 people to plant corn....with only a little tillage.
Any guess why your neighbors are going back to full tillage? Weed control issues or yeilds?
