Between Omaha and Des Moines, 7 miles South of I80 | In your previous reply, you mentioned your manual said 7FB and 4MG. I'm surprised it has a couple different connecting rods mentioned, because back in those days, they used the same connecting rod and rod bolts and nuts. Now, you have me wondering if CAT, has started to mix and match Connecting Rods, even for the older engines.(assuming his engine has been overhauled) {mixing connecting rod designs, started to back-fire on CAT when customers started complaining of vibration issues = The "cure" was to find 6 Cylinder packs, that all 6 where the same connecting rod design, during the overhaul. So, if the parts dept. sent out 4 of one design and 2 of another design, you have to go back to parts warehouse, and search thru cylinder packs and find 2 more of the "same" design as the first 4 cylinder packs = now all 6 would be the same; then proceed with overhaul.} Another problem was CAT REMAN Center put same reman part number on everything, and they didn't care which connecting rod was in each cylinder pack = more confusion !!! I will tell the OP, if his rod nuts are 7/8", then my specs should be correct. (I got my specs from a "7FB only" booklet = old book) |
