Subject: RE: Cat engine experts again

Southern Pa.
4WD - 2/23/2019 09:41

Front pulley and damper = put 2P2506 thread lube on threads of bolts and torque to 150 +/- 20 lb. ft

Main cap bolts = put 2P2506 thread lube on threads of bolts and torque to 190+/- 10 lb ft (bearing tab side, first) ; then retorque to 190 +/- 10 lb ft; then turn additional 120 +/- 5 degrees  {called the Torque/ Turn method}

Connecting Rod bolts and nuts = put 2P2506 thread lube on bolt threads and contact surfaces of nut and rod cap; then torque nuts to 60 +/- 6 lb ft; turn nuts an additional 120 +/- 5 degrees {Torque/Turn method}

Note: be aware, that those upper rod bolts, can "lift up" and get outside of their pocket, when you install the rod caps, so it is recommended that you take your fingers and feel the top of each rod bolts, to insure it is "seated properly" before you begin to torque each one. I recommend you feel the upper rod bolt, before you even loosen one, then you know the correct "feel" or how their bolt heads, taper to the outside. {They only fit properly One Way}

Question for 4WD. Aren't bolts that get the torque/turn method generally stretch/one time use bolts?
