Drive south out of Dells, and across (I think) I 90, and you'll come to a state park with a lake. You can rent kayaks nearby, and float around on a very quiet sheltered small lake, looking at lake front houses from the lake perspective.
My son and I spent most of an afternoon just kayaking around the lake. Nice and relaxing. showboat
