Neighbors run an apple orchard and maintain hives. This year they are trying to shorten the average distance from hive to tree to see if it improves pollination. They also invested in a device called a pollen duster which uses pollen (which they buy) to hand pollinate trees. (sounds like something from Harry Potter). I can always tell when the spring temp reaches 50 degrees, that's when the bees come over after the finely ground cattle feed until the blossoms are ready. They also like soybean blossoms and dandelions. I let them know ahead of time when I will spray the soybeans for aphids so they can shut them in if they think its necessary.
