Bloomfield, KY. | The man behind the dealer closings is the CEO, Robert Lane. He is a banker by trade, in other words a "bean counter". I mean that in the most insulting way possible. His buddies on Wall St. have done a bangup job, don't you think?
Lane has stated that while Deere has had great products and provided great service for almost 2 centuries, it has always been a poorly run business. I bet the 7 previous CEOs of Deere would take that as an insult. After all, they had taken the company from a 1 man blacksmith shop to the largest ag equipment manufacturer in the world, with arguably the most valuable brand name on the planet.
Robert Lane had nothing to do with the success of Deere & Co., but he thinks he knows more than the guys who did.
He is ignoring loyal customers, loyal dealers, and loyal employees by emphasizing short-term stock performance. It is typical of the thinking of top management in too many companies.
