Subject: RE: Fuel Treatment

Central ND
We are pretty sure that we had an algae problem this fall. We moved a 10,000 gallon vertical storage tank that had been being used for dyed fuel for 20 years. We raised it with the excavator high enough to get a tote under the water drain, and got all sorts of slimy crap with the water before we got the last 50 gallons or so of diesel. We had 4000 gallons delivered, and didn't attempt to pump any fuel from the tank for several weeks. The first 500 gallons we used, no problem. Then we plugged the 10 micron filter on the pump. Then another. Then a third, and had 2 of the trucks plug a filter. Around Thanksgiving, after temps were legitimately under freezing, no more problems. I did some trucking the last couple weeks and pumped almost 1000 gallons through at temps between 0-10°, and had no issues. I'm pretty sure that in the process of switching from dyed to clear, and stirring everything up, we had stuff growing. It's only going to cost us $0.02 per gallon for the treatment and piece of mind.
