Looking at putting up some sort of drying system on the farm to dry corn. We currently haul to a local farmer to get drying done, and depending on the year he stores it on his farm while bins sit empty here. We usually only have around 200 acres of corn, sometimes more, sometimes less. Was at the FarmSmart conference yesterday and they had a seminar comparing top dry to tower dryers and a few other drying options. I figured a Top Dry might be the best bin to use as we could also gently dry down IP beans if needed. The biggest problem we have is we dont have access to NG or 3 phase without spending a pile of money to get it here. Is it even worth putting in a dryer? Or do I just keep hauling to the local guy that has a dryer. I haven't really sat down and crunched the numbers (I'm not the farms accountant). Just looking for info to have that discussion with "management". |
