SE MN | I feel the same way you do about everything you said, but ultimately, I think your wrong. When in history have the old folks not thought the world was going to hell in the handbasket? When have the kids not been worthless, soft, and spoiled? As far as who will do the farming, show me a lack of farmers? I can think of several people in my own family who would like to farm full time given the opportunity but they have no chance at pulling the money together and frankly don't have the know-how to make a successful business of it. Land prices continue to be well beyond cash flow and somebody is paying for it. I honestly believe we could cut the number of farmers in half, take the worst 10% of acres out of production and have a healthier, more productive industry. For the record, I grew up farming but work in town now. I expect to be a vacation farmer for a long time and never be a full time farmer. | |
