Learn something new everyday. I've hooked up many 220 and 110 panels. Never thought (or knew) about the fact that each leg coming in was a different phase. I've even seen two 110 breakers used to make a 220 circuit. Obviously even then though they have to be hooked to different legs. I never really realized that in a standard box each row of breakers is hooked to alternating legs. If you tried to hook two up (for a 220 circuit) that were say 1 breaker apart they would be on the same phase and won't work. Very interesting. Thanks for straightening me out.
Yep, when the juice in one wire is coming at you the other 'leg' is going away from you. Kinda like the old Grey Pupon commercial with the two fancy cars. You get more work with less amperage that way. With 110 you just have one 'leg' cycling at 60 hertz. |
