North of London | Those were the days.
Our ring was 2 longs and a short.
Neighbours with son my age was 4 shorts and I learned to ring that myself, no need to go through operator since they were on the same line as us, as well as 10 other neighbours.
There was the one neighbour who liked to listen in and he forgot his clock was close to the phone too so you could hear it tick ticking away when he was listening.
OK so there were probably others who listened to but they did not have a clock close.
Got dial here in 1963 and ten only had 5 on our line
Only heard ring on 1 'side' of line so only ours and one neighbours rang through (maybe others were 1 long ring but think they were silent to us long time ago) | |
