(48 ring xx) Town phone numbers were just a number, no line. My grandma's was "89". No dial. You crank up the phone to get the operator and ask for 89. Ours in the country was the "party" line 5, ring 3. So there were probably close to 10 families on line five and we had to remember that if the phone rang 3 times it was for us. There were several combinations of long and short rings to differentiate between the various families on the line. |
