No starch to speak of in biomass fiber - just lignin, cellulose and hemicellulose. Cellulosic ethanol is made from the cellulose fraction. In that situation, the value of lignin and hemicellulose is pretty limited. If you can separate the lignin and hemi-cellulose out into pure streams, they both have value.
