South Central MN | I've heard of people applying fall fertilizer with an air drill before, seems possible it could be done but might be issues at high rates and speeds... Other idea would be a custom bar with low disturbance fertilizer openers and an air seeder cart, if depth was a concern.
Interesting results for sure, fall NH3 still quite popular here although I stopped using it a few years back. 20+ bushel swings in yield is quite a bit, and assuming costs were the same for both systems in the end would be a lot of money ahead doing the urea mix.
Ever toyed with some carbon based product for the urea instead of n-serve and running when it gets cooler in the fall like we waited for with NH3? (Humic acid or whatever it is?) Would take a facility that can mix a liquid solution onto the dry fertilizer and better off using a blade/paddle style mixer I imagine. Starting to hear more of them but don't know how much testing has been done with fall applied fertilizer. | |
