There's a guy up near Antigo WI that I used to deal with that processes a lot of oats. He told me a key to good test weight and yield was fungicide treatment.
We still put a bushel of oats as a nurse crop for new alfalfa and just bale it. Oats have to be about one of the most miserable crops to combine- at least with a JD 95 in July ;)
