From what I seen in my research about installing one all the tanks are in a fence line or have a triangle shape post and pipe guard over it. The deeper tires can be buried in the ground and then they get a little more help to stay unfrozen from the geothermal. But you wouldn't want to use that type of tire in a pen with young calves
