Depends. Most guys put it right on the ground, which is ok when it is frozen, but some put in troughs as well and get better results year round, only thing is to get enough trough space for everything it costs $$$$, in a lot of cases troughs would cost more then half of the proccessor, so guys that dont have a lot of head won't invest in it.
