Same here.
If you can gain 4 lbs per acre per day and get 1.50 for your gain, 800 gross dollars takes 130 days of grazing. Not easy but I’ve done a lot better. Probably wouldn’t work there as easy as it would here either. Cattle are too high.
Edit : cattle aren’t too high, there isn’t enough cattle that are the type that you can increase the value of by castrating, dehorning, weaning, etc.
Edit again if you take 375 per acre that it takes to plant a 200 bu corn crop and cut that to 150 you only need 525 gross dollars. You now need 1.08 for your gain per pound.. Deduct harvest expense I don’t know the exact difference between what your son would charge for riding a tractor pulling a cart and riding a big fancy colored gelding with a rope hanging loose but I bet it’s cheaper.
