SW Wisconsin | As far as I can tell every grade is in short supply in SW Wisconsin. I’m paying about $240/ton delivered for untested local alfalfa, I would guess about 170 RFV. I bought a few rounds of grass hay in July for $45 for a 1300lb bale, I expect I’m looking at half again that price once I get another milk check in, probably double or higher by late winter. Reasons I’ve heard include winterkill, late spring so small first crop, and a lot of hay around here is grown and stored in the river bottoms and was lost in the September floods. | |
