Subject: For Carlson

Driftless SW Wisconsin

You posted a pic of your Herf/Fleck F1 fed steer the other day which you bought as a sale barn single. He looked good.  I don't know how old or large your F1 was when you bought him but here are a couple of my similar F1's at weaning age.

I was putting out some baleage this afternoon and noticed a couple of my own F1 Herf/Fleck spring calves. Tag 111 was calved  4/27 and is about 195 days old. Tag 113 calved 4/05 and is 216 days old. Both are well over 600 lb and have had nothing but grass, hay and mama's milk.

Steer tag 111 is horned (my Fleck bull is dehorned), the only horned calf out of him. Most of my Hereford cows are homo polled but evidently not 111's dam.

I don't plan on weaning them for awhile but here are a couple pics. I'm really looking forward to seeing if these crossed steer calves can get over 1000 lb and to maybe 1100 by processing time. Also how they marble.
