We use one good sharp barb wire for stalk fields. Use a good plug in fencer!
We have trouble with smooth wire. Not as much surface area to carry spark (easier to get a weak spark), and no sharp barb to keep cows from pushing. A sharp barb will penetrate winter hair and give them a reminder if needed.
