Subject: RE: Keeping waterer thawed

NW Missouri
I don't know how long it lasted. This waterer was on the place when I bought it. It's an older one - it looked to me like the heating element went down in between the inner and outer walls, but it has been a few months since I looked at it. The water line is actually what gets frozen and makes it all quit working. Then once the rest of the water in the tank freezes, the lids are frozen in place. Takes a couple 5 gallon buckets of hot water to thaw them enough to get them loose.

Any sort of little heat down where the line comes in will keep it thawed for the temperatures we will have. I'm in NW MO too. I may try a rough service bulb but have heat tape on hand just in case.
