all over Iowa

I'm not sure feeding lime is what you are looking for.

Your supplement or balancer should be supplying all of the calcium needed for good nutrition, if it is being fed at the correct rate.

If you are looking for a buffer, sodium bicarb is a far better choice. I know Tums are basically calcium carbonate, but we are monogastrics and cattle are ruminants. Calcium is not a very effective rumen buffer because the rumen pH is too high. Include sodium bicarb in the ration at 3 oz per head per day for 30 days, and then cut back to 1.5 oz per head per day.

A buffer may help but it's not a silver bullet. If you have true stall out, the damage is already done to the rumen. The long term answer is to prevent stallout from happening by including sufficient effective fiber in your ration.
