NNW Nebraska | Ocassionaly lose one, but not often. & Sometimes it may be from improper installation.
Factory numbers stay fairly good. Hand printed numbers dont last.
Not that hard or dangerous to install with a headgate with a neck extender. Make the hole with a large (paper) punch plires like tool.
Insert hoop, put tag in hoop, bend ends with a tool like a bolt with a hole drilled in the end.
Sure it takes more time than a eartag, but well worth it.
I still use one eartag, as the brisket tags are a little harder to read.
None of my neighbors use them, so I can spot my cows in neighbors side of fence, from 100 yards away.
I used to use 2 ear tags & bangs tag number & still lost track of cows
In the other hand, my cousin was using a different tag that ysed some kind of knife tiil ti install. Hus hired man stabbed hus leg & hit a artery. He headed for the house without telling anyone what happened. He lost to much blood & died. | |
