EC SoDak | Ultimately it’s us farmers and as a collective group that sets basis. If -.50 won’t get grain when they want it, they tend to narrow basis .02/3 cents a time until it does. Or they make calls with private basis levels to fill their needs.
But for the actual number, it’s a group decision with the higher ups. Then that’s where we come in. Just depends what angle you want to look at it from.
Edit to add, it’s more like a circle flow chart. An end user can say what they are willing to pay, but if they need it, they will adjust.
