Hydrogen case is just another from of "battery" in that a reversible chemical reaction is used to store energy.

A few years back, a promoter was pushing the idea of generating electricity from aluminum oxidation, then using energy to re-convert the oxide to the pure metal.

The best way to store windmill power is on the grid-it isn't always blowing everywhere so even if point "a" is generating excess power, it can most effectively be used to make up for the power that isn't coming from point "b" simply because it the wind isn't blowing - or - the unit is down for service.

A simple probability theory exercise to determine how many excess turbines have to be created in statistically independent regions to create an even "flow" of electrical current into the grid.

Just a simple task for those economic geniuses that created the derivative market- don't even need an engineer!

Just kidding WyDave.
