| There are a few of those around. One near Taum Sauk Mountain in SE Missouri. It had a problem last year and I don't know if its back on line. The upper reservoir full sensor failed and they pumped it over and it ran down the hill through a camp ground and rangers quarters. There were injuries if not worse.
The beauty of such a scheme is that it consumes power when the plants are lightly loaded and so improves their efficiency, then daytimes it provides peaking power to save having to start another coal fired steam turbine. Taum Sauk has been in used maybe 20 or 25 years.
I'm sure google turn up more about it, look for Taum Sauk pumped storage.
