Ashburn, GA, (very close to Heaven!)
Yeah, I keep thinking there must be a mechanical versus battery way of storing that power when wind availability is more than electrical demand.

I think of how I used to have a rubber band airplane that I would wind and wind, rest a while holding it, then wind some more, all to make it fly longer.

Maybe that's what they need! GIANT RUBBER BANDS!

Seriously, the flywheel or compressed air are worth looking at.

There are two lakes on the Oconee River here in Georgia, Lake Sinclair and Lake Oconee, both power generating lakes. Sinclair has a coal fire plant, where Oconee is immediately upstream and is hydroelectric. The Oconee plant actually consumes more power than it generates! At night, when demand is low, they pump water from Sinclair back into Oconee; then during the day, they have more water (energy) available to run their turbines to generate power.
