our McIntosh never showed that characteristic, but John has it right. There is a nursery somewhere in Vancouver area-on an island, I think, that specializes in pink-fleshed apples. For all the varieties we once had, never had a single one with pink inside. As many varieties have been cross-bred for added characteristics, it may be that this is the result. We had a Winesap apple. In my adult life I have never tasted another like it, which leads me to believe what is marketed as Winesap are hybridized, as in Stayman Winesap....ain't the same
