I don't know for sure but I know at that time period there was an on going battle between the IH and Case engineers over who got to bring their ideas to market. IH had planned on going to 2+2 style tractors (think a beefed up Magnum rear end with a 2+2 front end and a Cummins L10 engine) while case though rigid frame tractors were the answer.
