I have heard of throwing straw hats into the threshing machine when the last bundle was pitched in to the machine back in the old days, but not poems.
Now days it is the Cowboys who are into poetry, and the one of the most famous is the ex-large animal veterinarian , Baxter Black. He would probably know about the end of harvest poem. http://www.baxterblack.com/
