Subject: RE: bean stubble feed value

southern MN
I graze some cornstalks and oats stubble/ cover crop over winter. To get the fenced patch of ground available for the cattle fast, I combined 20 acres of beans without hooking up the straw chopper on the combine, just let it windrow.

The cattle nosed through and ate out of those windrows all winter, in addition to the stalks and cover crop. They pretty much had the bean stubble windrow moved and sized down to not bothering in spring. I’m not really sure how much they gained out of it and I didn’t do that with intentions of them eating it, but they musta got something out of it.
