Subject: Blown in insulation house attic question

Texas/New Mexico Stateline
We've been in this house for about a year and a half, and I was up in the attic running some wires.

It seemed like the blown in fiberglass insulation was not distributed very evenly. They had huge piles near the middle of the house, but when you got over to the side of the house, there were a few spots you could actually see the back of the ceiling drywall near the eaves. Maybe 2-3ft in the worst areas. I understand not blocking the soffit vents, but it seems to me like the insulation should at least cover the room area?

Anyway, I got up there and spread it around more evenly the best I could and added a few more bales in some thinner areas.

Feel like this is the right way, but was wondering if there was some reason I was missing? Almost seemed to me like the guy running the insulation blower was too lazy to crawl up in there and just tried to shoot it as far as he could. And that was not far enough?
