In our area the grade school govt ‘blah product’ was milk. Dang it if we didn’t always get spring pastured cows with the green tasting milk in spring, and otherwise that govt supplied milk was just always the ‘off’ stuff. Looking back I presume the milk processors dumped off the questionable runs to the low cost free govt buyers?

Really disappointing, as it set us kids up for preferring pop over milk as we grew older. Another govt program with good intentions but it got gamed or misused to basically turn off a whole generation to milk.....
