Carl, that is exactly why I enjoy the young guys that help us. I hope that in some small way I made a difference in their life as well as a pay check.
I'm currently paying $8.25 to a 2nd year guy. Starting point varies with ability, I think. I try to keep in mind that Burger King pays about the same for lighter work.
