Central Ga | The pecan crop took a beating as did fall vegetable crops and soybeans were flattened. Many poultry houses were damaged or destroyed. The cotton was just the most dramatic and took the biggest hit. Unginned modules of cotton may be unginnable. The round rolls of cotton wrapped in plastic should be fine as long as the wrap was not damaged. Many, many people that were actively picking cotton will take the pickers home and clean them up. It’s over, there’s nothing left. Freshly dug peanuts probably handled the storm the best so long as the winds were not severe enough to move the windrows. Peanuts still in the ground are fine as long as they are not mature enough to dig. Peanuts that were ready to dig will come off in the ground if they are not dug soon. The peanut handling infrastructure was so badly damaged there is some concern about being able to process the peanuts that are still in the field in a timely manner. Expectations are that the crop loss in Georgia alone may be a Billion dollars. The total ecomic impact will be much higher. I suspect that the cotton alone could approach that number. There are some south Ga. folks that post here. Maybe they can chime in and share some pics. Right now they just feel like they have been punched in the gut and thrown on the ground.
