Your last comment - Slatted barns on average have not shown any performance improvement over bedded barns. 

What about economic improvement?  No straw / corn stalk bales for bedding, easier manure handling (handle liquid once vs solid), significantly less labour costs (watch the poop drop rather then move it away).  I think those make slatted floors look better then bedded.
