Galahad, Alberta | I think that it is great what you are doing for the boy! He will gain so much self esteem from doing actual "work" that has a visible result. I can't remember how many cultivator shovels I changed or windows I cleaned before I actually got a chance to run the equipment in the field. I think that I had a lot more respect for the machinery because I had done so much work to it as a young kid. I didn't really do much operating until I was about 14. Running a pull type swather and spiking stubble with a 875 Versy.. I was amazed at the thread earlier about kids running machines at 6 and 7 years old by themselves. Earliest I can remember running something is my dad's M2 gleaner when I was 10 picking up swaths, and that was only for about 200 feet while he checked for grain being thrown over. I believe kids can get themselves into more trouble and machines are so much more expensive to fix these days that kids need to be more mature now to run stuff. Just my $.02.
