We have one keyless vehicle, that is now 5 years old.
So far, neither fob battery has had to be replaced. The are stored in a location near enough to vehicle that the remote start will function. The vehicle will only open if the fob is within a foot or 2 of the door being opened.
My issue with them is it's to easy to walk away and leave them running.
Not good if left running in the garage attached to the house.
We've been out with it and had the person carrying the fob exit the vehicle and the other person drive off for another errand.
There was no warning from vehicle. Realized what would happen before shutting off -- so not sure how vehicle would have reacted if attempted to shut off.
IMHO, a key system helps enforce good key/vehicle management.
Things change as problems become evident, my first "keyless" car, a 2010 Toyota would not warn me if I left the engine running and walked away with the fob, but my 2015 Lincoln will give two short beeps of the horn if the fob leaves the car while the engine is on.
