Sioux County, NWIA
"Later research has confirmed that there wasn't much all that toxic in properly manufactured 2-4-5T but if the chemical was rushed to completion and cooked too hot, then the bad stuff: Dioxin as a by-product was created.”

This is my understanding as well. Apparently there were trace amounts of dioxin produced in the synthesis of 2,4,5-T, but if the temp got too high during synthesis, dioxin levels would soar. There was an accident at a chemical factory in Italy where 2,4,5-T was made. A reactor overheated and the resulting relief event was discharged into the atmosphere. Because of the overheating, there was a significant amount of dioxin in the discharge. The 2,4,5-T was described as being “mild as milk” compared to the dioxin. The LD-50 for dioxin in test animals is frighteningly low.
