For 30 years I farmed DNR food plots and I had to leave 33% of soybeans in field till spring for the pheasants. Was supposed to combine 2 strips and leave 1 strip, but often I would just leave the 33% in a big patch in middle of field for snow reasons. When I combined those patches in spring they usually averaged 50% of fall yield. The oil content was very low so always brought to local coop because they didn't check for low oil content like processor did . One out of 10 years would barely have any lost yield, and one out of 10 would be zero yield. Visual quality was always quite good.
The little experience I’ve had with an odd acre or three that overwinters in a low spot, that is right on exactly. In addition to low oil content, they split very easily.
