Confirmed as an adult in the church, at least for Catholics, United Church of Canada does this as well iirc... usually during grade 8 (at least for Catholic kids in folks' diocese).
It is one of the 7 sacraments in the Catholic church iirc, baptism, eucharist (communion), penance & reconciliation (confession), confirmation, anointing of the sick (last rites), holy orders, and marriage.
