Sumner County Kansas "The Wheat Capital" | A few years ago I had 3 teenage boy as my wheat harvest crew. My son and another farm boy in combines and 1 city boy in the tractor and grain cart. It had rained quite a bit that year and before we could finish the weeds were getting pretty bad. One day after several days of rain we got back into the field and the wheat a lot of weeds in the bin. So the first grain cart load the combine operators told the city boy in the cart that he would have to get up in there and pick all the green chunks out of the cart or the elevator wouldn't dump the wheat. Well when I got back with the truck the tractor and cart was parked out in the middle of the field and this kid is up in the cart, not knowing what is going on I called on the radio and all I could hear was laughter from the combines. After a little laughter myself we got the tractor moving again and he would never believe anything the 2 boys would tell him until he asked me. |
