Nebraska, The land of corn and cattle | Why not rent some cornstalks and cut down your hay useage? We dont use much more hay than that a winter on 100+ spring calving cows and most of that is fed when its too wet to be in the field and not enough grass in the pastures. Now fall pairs would take more feed, but 30-35 cows can spend alot of time in a 1/4 of corn eating for themselves. We just use a single hot wire around the field for fencing. Even if you have to haul water to them, itd still be cheaper than buying hay. |
