Always good to hear from you CFDR, please post your insights more often.  

As abysmal as we are at forecasting the weather, perhaps we should be looking at the old fashioned methods, plants, animals etc.  Either scientifically try to understand what metrics they are using, and follow them ourselves, or just plain use them as predictors.
