Subject: RE: Pelleted Chicken Manure on organic crops

North Central Illinois
I am finding that it takes close to two tons/acre to maximize corn yield, unless it's on ground following a heavy legume N credit from established alfalfa. Then 1500 lbs would do it. This year I saw visible N deficiency starting at tassel with one ton of litter on ground that had fall killed red clover as an N source.

As for price, I've seen it priced anywhere from $80 to $400 per ton FOB the source. I know it can be used to grow good organic corn, but I think it'd be a hard sell in an area with a lot of hog confinements providing relatively cheap nutrients.
