West Central Alberta Coldest, wettest edge | And the Peace region was one of the few bright spots until the snow. They mostly had adequate to above average moisture while we were bone dry. From what I'm told crops looked very good. Then the smoke came and delayed things. then it snowed it all flat. I heard recently that barley prices in the Peace were higher than feedlot alley in southern Alberta, whereas normally the freight is so high that their prices can be half. None was combined, all was lying flat under snow and it was desperately needed for feed. Custom feedlot is turning away cattle they had contracted since they have no feed now. I'm receiving constant messages and phone calls from grain buyers lately, which is always a good sign about prices going forward. |
