looks like a 3 or 4 ft long piece of 3x3 by 1/2in angle iron welded to the axle ought to hold.
line the broken axle backup and weld the reinforcement to it.
make for sure you don't touch the weding electrode to the gas tank or you probally won't be posting
for either a while or ever.
