if you replace the part with known good one from a salvage yard, there is no reason to assume it will fail again instantly. sure not enough reason to scrap it. imho
it failed at the best possible location (driveway). cars could be made much better, and they would last a lifetime. unfortunatly the money seems to be in selling new, not fixing old.
