SE Michigan | First off, you are lucky it happened in the driveway,
Reading the other posts, I have a few problems...
First off the vehicle has 90k miles, I assume tht when you bought it you understood the warranty and basically agreed to it by purchasing the vehicle. Granted if something major went wrong at 36,500 miles and the warranty was 36,000 the dealer / automaker should stand behind it. 90K is WAY out of warranty.
Second, do you know that this is a common failure? you stated that you are an enginer so you must know that there is no such thing as ZERO failures, and machines are designed and manufactured with and understanding that a certain number will eventaually fail, that is why manufactures use satistics to evaluate manufacturing processes, materials and procedures. Sure you can build a car or anyother machine that will never fail, but you will never be able to sell it due to the cost, lets face it, that is just real life!
One post was also 0000ing about cheap china steel used for the axle, maybe so, but if you were given a choice to but two identical vehicles one made with all USA parts, materials and Union labor, or the same vehicle with china steel, Mexican wire harnesses, Brazil engine components, computer systems made and programed in India for about $3-4K less, I suspect that your choice would be easy.
It fells good to 0000 about the failure, and be quick to blame the auto maker, dealer etc, but look at the big picture.
Bye the way, last spring my 1976 IH 986 broke a piston pin with 4500 hrs ( I am the second owner and am sure that the tractor never has been abused and always been maintained very well), should I go to the dealer and start complaining? Do you think I have a good case to sue? Or maybe I should just start bashing IH tractors? | |
